Modafinil Vs Armodafinil: What You Need To Know

The twin stars of smart drugs are Modafinil and it’s stronger “sister” drug, Armodafinil. It’s most commonly sold under the trade name Nuvigil. So, Armodafinil vs Modafinil? Let me break down the Hard Science™, because every other article I’ve read on the subject doesn’t. They seem to assume readers all have a Chemistry degree. “Armodafinil is the enantiopure compound of the eugeroic modafinil (Provigil). It consists of only the (R)-(-)-enantiomer of the racemic modafinil.” An enantiopure compound is a compound/drug which contains ONLY one enantiomer of molecule, in this case, Modafinil. The Modafinil molecule comes in two mirror images, similar to your own left hand and right hand. Both act slightly differently on the brain, it is only a subtle difference that is comparable with drawing a picture with your left hand, or right hand. Or, think of LASER light; a laser is streamlined light rather than a light bulb that emits chaotic wavelengths.

“Eurogic” means wakefulness. Modafinil contains a mix of left and right enantiomers of Modafinil molecules. Both act on the brain, and produce wakefulness effects but they act slightly differently and the effect is therefore not completely streamlined. Laser versus lightbulb, both emit light but only one can cut through steel. Armodafinil has a longer half life than Modafinil, because it contains only one enantiomer of Modafinil. This means you get the same effect with a smaller dose; it’s a stronger version of our friend Modafinil.
